What is a Fluid Flush?
While it is gas that you put in the tank, your car actually utilizes a number of other fluids to operate. These are specialized liquids designed to complete specific operations within the vehicle. Engine oil, for example, provides lubrication and heat reduction within the motor. Yet, as oil ages it breaks down and loses its ability to do its job. This is why you need oil changes. These other fluids also need to be changed, but at much less frequency. This is a service called a fluid flush. The following are the most common fluid flush services required by most vehicles.
Brake Fluid Flush
The brakes utilize specialized brake fluid to provide the hydraulic force that brings your car to a stop. If the fluid is contaminated it can cause braking issues and a loss of braking capabilities. As with all fluid flush services, you can check your owner's manual to see when your vehicle needs a brake fluid flush.
Coolant, also known as antifreeze, is what runs through the cooling system to prevent the engine from overheating. This is an important job which can be disrupted by debris and contaminants inside the coolant, which is why it is important that you complete this service as called for by your vehicle's service schedule.
Transmission Fluid Flush
Transmission fluid flushes are usually done as a part of larger transmission services, but they can be done on their own. This service is necessary to ensure that you don't grind gears, which can be damaging to your transmission.
The differential helps distribute power created by the engine to wheels using a number of gears. These gears are lubricated with differential fluid. If the gears are not properly lubricated it could cause differential failure, so don't hesitate to have this service done when called for.
Power Steering Flush
The power steering system also uses a specialized fluid to help make controlling your vehicle easier. Aged power steering fluid can become full of contaminants that are damaging to your vehicle's power steering pump.
