Common Check Engine Light Triggers

Don't Put Off Brake Repair!

Don't Put Off Brake Repair!Today's cars and trucks consist of numerous systems that work together to create a simple to operate, comfy and safe ride. Out of all of these systems, such as the engine, transmission, suspension, cooling system and more, the most important in terms of safety is the brakes. If you experience trouble slowing your vehicle or notice any of the following brake trouble symptoms, be sure to visit an auto repair shop immediately.

ABS Indicator Light

Your dashboard is home to a variety of lights that will be triggered if sensors detect a problem onboard. One of those lights means there is a problem with the brakes, and it reads ABS, for anti-lock braking system. If this comes on go to the shop for diagnostics right away, before the problem gets any worse.

Braking Vibrations

A warped brake rotor will result in your car vibrating due to the uneven surface that the brake pad is trying to rub against to create the friction needed to slow the vehicle. This vibration is generally felt in the brake pedal and/or steering wheel, but if the warpedness is bad enough the shaking can be felt throughout the vehicle.

Vehicle Pulling while Braking

Uneven brake pad wear is likely to cause the car to try and pull left or right when you hit the brake pedal. There are bigger problems that can cause this such as impurities in the brake fluid or a malfunctioning wheel cylinder.

Spongy Brake Pedal

A brake pedal that is easily pressed to the floor often means that your brake pads are worn out. Other causes of this include air in the brake lines or a brake fluid leak, which would mean you should stop driving your vehicle immediately.

Grinding Noise

Often times the first sign of brake trouble is a grinding or squealing noise that occurs when you apply the brakes. This means that the car's brake pads are worn down to the metal, which is grinding on the metal rotor, thus causing the sound and preventing proper braking.

Brake problems need to be addressed right away to maintain a safe vehicle. If you need brake repair in Richmond head to All Tune and Lube. Our professional auto repair technicians will ensure your car is safe and sound when it leaves the shop. Give us a call at (804) 262-4200 to schedule an appointment today.
