Does my car need service? A few signs that say yes!

Does my car need service? A few signs that say yes!Often times, people are reluctant to bring their vehicle into the shop unless it is showing symptoms of a significant problem. However, preventive maintenance is the kind of thing that can help to protect your vehicle from developing a serious problem in the first place. We don't often stop to think about the sophistication of our automobiles, but the fact of the matter is that they are incredibly complex machines that are filled with intricately-fitting moving parts. As the years go on and the miles add up, those parts experience wear and tear. By getting in for a tune-up, you can help to prolong the lifespan of your car, truck, or SUV.

If your vehicle is fresh off of the factory assembly line, you might not need a tune-up for quite a while. However, the general rule is that once your odometer has rolled past 100,000 miles, you get in for a tune-up every 10,000 to 20,000 miles that follow. Regardless of mileage points, there are some signs that could mean it's time for you to get to the shop for a tune-up. Here are five of those signs:

Stalling

This could indicate that you're dealing with a spark plug issue. If your vehicle has been stalling out, it could be beneficial for you to take note of the circumstances under which it is occurring, and then tell your mechanic the details.

Decreasing Gas Mileage

This could also be a spark plug issue, which is the kind of thing that is easily taken care of during a tune-up. Just because gas prices have come down, doesn't mean you want to pay a penny more than necessary at the pump.

Difficulty Starting

This could be caused by a number of different issues. One possibility is that you are in need of an ignition adjustment.

Vibration

If it feels like your vehicle is trembling, it could be because of a faulty U-joint. Another possibility is that you need tire rotation.

Mileage Points

Once you hit 100,000 miles, it's a good idea to start getting to the shop for regular tune-ups.
